Halloween Games for School

Halloween Games for School

There are many different Halloween games for school that can be used in the classroom. Whether you’re having a Halloween party or you just want to have some Halloween fun in the lead up to Halloween, the kids – and the teacher also – will enjoy a break from the regular school routine. There are even Halloween games that are educational too so that while the kids have fun they can also be learning.

You can find different Halloween games for school on the internet or you might like to try one of these. Some of the games are active and some are quieter games. It is worthwhile having a few of both planned and using a combination of active ones and non active ones. A quiet game and active game have been described below.

Trick or Treat Parcel is a version of the birthday party game, ‘Pass the Parcel’. To play this game you’ll need a parcel with many different layers of wrapping. In each layer there is either a small treat, like a candy or a sticker or there is a trick card which names something that the child has to do. The treat card might say something like, ‘Do a mummy dance,’ or ‘Howl like a werewolf.’ The center of the parcel can be a larger treat or a bag or candy with a note that says to share with those who didn’t get a treat in the game.

To play, the children sit in a circle and the parcel is passed as around the circle while music is played. Use Halloween or spooky themed music like ‘Monster Mash’ or ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson. When the music stops the child with the parcel unwraps a layer and either takes treat or performs the trick. This continues until the parcel is completely unwrapped.
If you are looking for Halloween games for school that are a bit more active, you might like to try a game of Spooky Corners. For this game the four corners of the room or four different areas are assigned a Halloween character like Dracula, Mummy, Frankenstein and Werewolf. Label each area with a sign or a picture. You’ll also need four smaller cards labeled with these also.
Next let the music begin. Again choose music with a spooky theme and something that children can dance to. The children dance as the music is played and when the music stops they run to an area. Someone is chosen to draw a card from the four cards and show it to everyone. All of the children in this area are eliminated and sit to the side while the game continues. This game continues until only one child remains and wins the prize.

These Halloween games for school are ideal for a Halloween classroom party or even for a class reward in the lead up to Halloween. If you need more ideas just search the internet for ‘kids Halloween games’ and you’ll find loads of ideas. An even better idea is to get the kids to do the research and find appropriate games. They could then present their game to the class and the class could choose which games they would like to play. Doing this gives the kids a research project and a speaking presentation that all will be keen to do.
